At Pro.com, we aspire to create a remarkable home improvement experience for every homeowner we serve. We just wrapped up 2018 on a high note with nearly 300% job booking growth over 2017, and our successful expansion now includes services in Denver, San Francisco, San Jose, Phoenix and our hometown of Seattle. Beyond having a record year, we are proud to announce Pro.com series B funding led by WestRiver Group (WRG), Goldman Sachs and Redfin, with participation from previous investors, DFJ, Madrona Venture Group, Maveron, and Two Sigma Ventures.
The new Pro.com Series B capital will fuel the expansion of our unique technology-driven General Contracting business to new markets, with Portland being our next city. With today’s news, we welcome three new Pro.com Board members: Erik Anderson, WestRiver Group founder and CEO; Glenn Kelman, CEO, Redfin; and Charlotte Guyman, a former Microsoft executive and current Berkshire Hathaway Board member.
Our Investors Share Our Enthusiasm
Redfin is a real estate industry innovator — it’s truly an honor to have CEO Glenn Kelman join as a Board observer with a tremendous depth of experience. The Redfin team has built a successful company by using technology to improve the process of buying and selling homes. Glenn shared his thoughts on Pro.com and the synergy between our companies:
“Many of Redfin’s customers struggle to get professional renovation services, so we know firsthand that Pro.com’s market opportunity is massive. Pro.com and Redfin share a commitment to combining technology and local, direct services to best take care of customers. We are impressed by the value proposition offered by Pro.com, and the talent, vision and humble work ethic of Matt, Raji, and the entire team.
Another new Board member and investor, Erik Anderson from WestRiver Group, also shared his thoughts regarding the investment and the significance to WRG: “Pro.com has the potential to be one of the most trusted brands in home improvement services. The company puts the customer first and is built on strong operating principles, which strategically aligns with our long-term investment mission at WRG.”
Fixing the Broken Home Remodeling Industry
The home remodeling industry is fraught with a lack of transparency, unhappy customers and limited use of the latest technologies. It’s time for a renovation. Software and technology are used so infrequently in the construction industry resulting in one of the lowest productivity improvement rates across all industries. On top of that, homeowners experience anxiety, frustration and lose trust in most contractors they hire. In an industry where $400 billion is spent annually, it’s time for a change.
To become the next generation General Contractor, we have assembled a construction team with decades of residential home improvement experience and a technology team that has built software for major brands at scale. The result for our customers has been a much-improved experience — detailed quotes delivered faster than other contractors, local project managers tracking and communicating progress on job sites using our proprietary app, and an entire back-office team to support the customer’s project at every step.
Helping Homeowners, One Remodel at a Time
Pro.com has helped thousands of homeowners with projects ranging from kitchen and bath remodels to new additions and ground-up new home construction. One recent project included an accessory dwelling unit (ADU) that was built alongside a home on Lake Washington. Another project was full ground-up construction of a new 3,500 sq. ft.home on Mercer Island, WA. That homeowner shared with our team, “The entire team at Pro.com exceeded my expectations by getting the home built in nine months — on budget and on-time. Thank you!” We have posted other examples of the incredible home transformations we’re making on the Pro.com blog.
The foundation of Pro.com is built on being the best and most-trusted General Contractor in the country. It’s going to take a lot of effort to deliver a world-class experience to each and every homeowner, but we’re proud of our work and we’re well on our way. We won’t stop until that goal is achieved, and we hope others who share our vision will join us. We are starting the new year with more than 125 employees and we plan on using much of the Pro.com Series B funding to actively looking for and hire great talent to join our amazing team.
